Year 10 students have created a striking series of self-portraits inspired by the work of renowned artists Gerard Sekoto Monareng and Frida Kahlo. Through studying these influential artists, students explored how self-portraiture can communicate identity, personal experiences and individuality.
Drawing inspiration from Kahlo’s symbolic imagery and Monareng’s expressive use of colour, students developed their own unique compositions that reflect aspects of their personality, interests and background. They experimented with acrylic painting techniques, colour theory and composition, carefully considering how visual elements can convey mood and meaning.
The project encouraged students to think deeply about self-expression while refining their observational drawing and painting skills. The resulting artworks are both thoughtful and visually engaging, showcasing the creativity, confidence and artistic development of our talented Year 10 students.
